The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides up to $4,000 annually to students who commit to teaching high need subject areas upon graduation. Requirements for the TEACH Grant are as follows:

  • Be enrolled in a critical shortage area teacher preparation program within the state of Florida (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Have and maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher

What are the TEACH Grant service obligations?

Students who receive the TEACH Grant must adhere to the following upon finishing their teacher preparation program:

  • Teach full-time in a high needs subject area for at least four academic years within eight years of receiving the TEACH Grant
  • Teach in a school or educational agency that is designated as low-income
  • Provide documentation to the Department of Education of how you are meeting the service obligation

 

What is a low-income school/educational agency?

Typically, a school or educational agency that has been designated low-income are schools in which at least 40% of the student population are eligible for free and/or reduced lunch. If you are interested in teaching at a particular school or district, you can check the Teacher Cancellation Low Income list. If they are not on the list, there are ways in which schools can be added to this list.

In addition, you can also opt to teach within the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Education. 

 

What if I do not meet the service obligations within eight years?

If you do not meet the service obligations listed above, all of the money that you received from the TEACH Grant will be converted to Direct Unsubsidized Loans. All loans must be repaid in full with interest.

 

Can I receive the TEACH Grant while I am enrolled in a graduate program?

Yes, students who meet the requirements for the TEACH Grant can receive this grant while enrolled in an undergraduate and/or graduate program.
