Florida State’s Measurement & Statistics graduate certificate program prepares students to be equipped with essential quantitative skills, which are becoming more and more in demand in a variety of fields. Quantitative analysis is considered very important, particularly with large or big data, and the Measurement & Statistics certificate program provides students with data analysis skills using applied statistical methods and educational/psychological measurements.
The program is designed for graduate students (outside of FSU’s Measurement & Statistics graduate degree program) and non-degree seeking students with bachelor’s degrees. Enrolled students can take their certificate courses at their own pace.
Students in the Measurement & Statistics certificate program learn popular applied statistical inferential techniques, such as analysis of variance and multilevel modeling in the context of applied social science research. In addition, they will learn classical test theory and modern measurement techniques, along with essential latent variable methods – all of which are necessary for test development and its validation.
Admission to the graduate certificate program is required. Students are not enrolled in a certificate program by virtue of being enrolled in related courses. Students must apply to and be admitted to the certificate program in order to be considered enrolled.
IMPORTANT: In order to be eligible for admission to a graduate certificate program, an applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution.
Admission to College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) graduate certificate programs requires submission of the Certificate Admissions Form to the appropriate department Certificate Program Coordinator (see respective certificate website for contact information) and to the CEHHS Office of Academic Services and Intern Support prior to the completion of two courses in the certificate program. All coursework in the certificate program must be completed with a minimum 3.0 GPA and must be completed within 7 years of first enrolling in certificate program coursework.
Admission to the certificate program is open to all full-time or part-time graduate students currently enrolled at Florida State University. The only specific course prerequisite is EDF 5400 (Basic Descriptive and Inferential Statistics) or an equivalent course.
On acceptance in the certificate program, the student will be assigned an advisor. The student and advisor will jointly design the program of study.

For students beginning the certificate program in Spring 2022 or later, 15 credit hours are required and must be completed within seven years. Students must earn a minimum 3.0 GPA in the courses taken towards the certificate. Transfer credits will not be accepted.

Elective (1 course; 3 credit hours)
- EDF 5409 Structural Equation Modeling (3 hours)
- EDF 5434 Item Response Theory (3 hours)
- EDF 5448 Scale and Instrument Development (3 hours)
- EDF 7418: Multilevel Modeling (3 hours)
Students who have previously taken a course substantially similar to one of the required courses may substitute the course with an elective course offered by the Measurement & Statistics program with approval from the Measurement and Statistics certificate program coordinator.
Upon completion of the required coursework, a Certificate Completion Form must be submitted.
