Our goal at the College of Education is to prepare the next generation of teachers and educational thought leaders, and we want to provide as much support as possible to allow our students to be leaders in the classroom from the moment they graduate. We want our students to be able to focus on their careers, not worry about student loan debt. To accomplish this, we give more scholarships than any other College of Education in the state of Florida. What does this translate to exactly? This year, we gave out , . $417,000 in student scholarships to 211 students. There is more than one way to support students, of course, which is why we also provide them with the opportunity to interact with the latest technology and devices to enhance teaching and learning. Technology has revolutionized the classroom, and teachers can use cutting-edge tools to interact with students and educate in ways that previous generations could only dream about. The College of Education's Tech Sandbox gives our future educators access to technologies that may someday make their way into the classroom, from VR helmets to 3D printing.
This support extends beyond our students to our faculty. We're proud that so many of our faculty produce nationally recognized scholarship. Whether they are exploring emerging technologies and their applications in the classroom, researching different approaches to pedagogy, evaluating the effectiveness of programs, or developing new ways to teach future teachers, the faculty in the College of Education influence the entire field of education. These research initiatives brought in nearly $15 million dollars in grants and other funding methods from organizations like the Gates Foundation, Florida Department of Education, National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education and more.
