Productive science talk is the idea that students should collaborate, discuss and work towards solutions instead of being told information. For instance, students might discuss what they observe in a lab experiment instead of just being told science concepts. Students might not always start with the right answer, but through conversation and guidance from their teacher, they will eventually uncover and discover for themselves important scientific concepts.

The College of Education faculty and students actively seek to bring their research to audiences far and wide. The important work conducted by faculty members in the department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies has far-reaching implications in the fields of higher education, educational leadership, and education policy. These presentations cover topics including but not limited to student enrollment, education reform, equity and inclusion, neurodiversity and more.

The anti-racism resource we published at the beginning of June gathered together a number of important sources, resources, literature and media to help educate everyone about the importance of going beyond merely acknowledging racism, but instead adopting ideologies that actively combat racism.

One in 68 children born in the United States are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The diagnosis rate has increased over the years, prompting researchers to investigate ASD. FSU's College of Education faculty have joined the research efforts and have added valuable insight into the debate over the years. As part of Autism Awareness month, we're looking at some of this ongoing autism research happening in the College of Education.

Faculty and student scholars from across the College of Education at Florida State University are conducting research addressing the theme of “Teaching and Learning.” Topics covered include how to improve teaching and teachers at both the K-12 and college levels, faculty-student interaction, teachers’ professional development, teaching strategies for different domains, student motivation, models of formative assessment, and learning strategies. Their work on these issues may affect teachers, students, and the institutions they belong to in the U.S.

Faculty and students from across the College of Education at Florida State University are conducting research focused on out-of-school influences on learning and instruction. Their work on these issues highlights important considerations for teaching and learning in whatever contexts it occurs, both in the U.S. and around the world. The wide range of topics covered include grief among U.S. college students, parenting challenges of gifted children in Italy, teachers' use of social media, economic relevance of instruction, and the effects of state and federal policy on teachers and students.
